Homeowner’s Oil Tank Checklist
Typical steel home heating oil tanks are strong and durable but they don’t last forever. So, like most components of your house, you need to be mindful of your oil tank. It’s a good idea to check your tank periodically. Here’s a list of things to look for:
- Oil smell
- Signs of oil beneath the tank
- Oil stains on the exterior of the tank
- Exterior rust
- Four sturdy legs on a solid surface
Call your oilheat dealer immediately if you notice a leak. Place a pan or container under the leak. Do not touch or wipe the area of the leak. If you have concerns about the condition of your tank, ask your oilheat dealer for an evaluation by an oilheat technician.
